Alumni and Friends of VMI:
Cyber Corps Numbers: 505
As you can see, the Cyber Corps membership recently surpassed the
500 mark. I don't think we'll get the publicity that Mark McGwire
generated, but it's pretty slick anyway. A special thanks to all
our loyal participants and those who provide information to be
shared with others in the Cyber Corps.
VMI Football: Georgia Southern is ranked number
3 in the I-AA Polls. This is the fourth ranked opponent in a row
that VMI has faced.
Geo Southern 63, VMI 7
RECAP
STATESBORO, Ga. (AP) _ Georgia Southern's Adrian Peterson, Cory
Joyner
and Carl Small each scored two touchdowns Saturday to lead the
Eagles to
a 63-7 victory over VMI.
Peterson began the scoring spree with two 1-yard touchdown runs
in the
first quarter.
Jason White responded with a 1-yard scoring run for VMI (1-4, 0-3
Southern Conference). But by halftime, Georgia Southern (5-0,
3-0) led
35-7.
Small added 17 and 3-yard scoring runs in the fourth for GSU
after Greg
Hill scored on a 4-yard run in the third and Audrell Grace
brought in a
26-yard scoring pass from J.R. Revere.
A 64-yard punt return by Joyner in the second, minutes after he
scored
on a 16-yard pass from Hill pretty much secured the game for the
Eagles
by halftime.
Class of '73 With The Big Bucks: Congrats to the
class of '73 which recently celebrated its 25th reunion. Rumor
has it that the class pledged 7.3 million. If this is yen I'm not
too impressed. If this is dollars, I am duly impressed.
I Guess the First Class Does Run Barracks After All:
I understand that the first class was recently a little peeved at
the Corp's rather tepid support of the football team at a recent
football game. To make a point, the first class revoked some of
the privileges of the lower classes. Not sure what privileges
were revoked but I do hear that the thirds can only use Jackson
Arch when going to formations. I also think that the seconds and
thirds can only wear their bathrobes on their own stoops. Other
details are sketchy.
Breakout With A Twist: Also seems that the first
class is considering the possibility of changing breakout this
year. Rather than have the rats crawl through the mud puddle of
death, etc., the firsts are considering a four day march to New
Market. I believe this would be in the neighborhood of 80+ miles.
Nothing definite yet. As you might imagine, the logistics
surrounding such an undertaking are significant. Stay tuned.
Gen Bunting's Interview on C-Span 2: I watched
Gen Bunting's interview yesterday. As usual he did a fine job and
represented the Institute well.
Minutes from Recent Alumni Association Meeting:
I was unable to attend the recent meeting of the Alumni
Association. However, as soon as I receive the minutes I will
pass along the major points.
Hey, that's it for this week.
Yours in the Spirit,
RB Lane '75
