VMI Cyber Corps

Alumni and Friends of VMI:

Cyber Corps Numbers: 410

Dining at the Academies: OK, OK...I've heard from folks at the Army, Navy and Air Force Academies. They all say that breakfast and lunch at these academies are served family style and that dinner is optional (cafeteria style?). I did have one participant state that he thought that the Air Force Academy ordered out all the time. You have to love culinary humor.

White Blouse Shortage: I haven't heard anything else about the potential shortage of white blouses for Ring Figure. It may not be the problem I was first told it was. I'll keep my ear to the ground on this one.

VMI Football: The Keydets lost to Western Carolina today by a score of 24 - 0. That drops the Keydets to 0 - 8 for the season.

VMI Basketball: VMI was picked to finish third in the North Division of the Southern Conference and received one first-place vote in the coaches' preseason men's basketball poll. VMI has placed two players on the preseason All-Conference team. They are Brent Conley, who missed half of last season on school suspension, and point guard Darryl Faulkner. They have been recognized as being among the league's top 10 players.

VMI will begin its season in less than two weeks. This represents an earlier than normal start date for the season.

VMI Soccer: VMI recently lost to Davidson 6 - 1. VMI falls to 1-14-2 overall with the loss and 1-4-1 in the conference. The Southern Conference Tournament begins on Tuesday, Nov. 4.

Another Star: Thanks to Tom Sliwoski '78 for passing along the following news about John Jumper '66:
The president has nominated to the Senate the following general officer appointment to the grade of general with assignment as indicated:
Lt. Gen John P. Jumper, currently Deputy Chief of Staff, Air and Space Operations, HQ USAF, Pentagon, Washington, DC, will become Commander, Air Forces Central Europe, NATO: Commander, United States Air Forces in Europe, and Air Force Component Commander, USEUCOM, Ramstein AB GE.

In Search of Internship: Matt Eads '93 e-mails that he is looking for a summer internship position for the summer of 1998. Matt is in his first year at Georgia Tech (Master of Science in Management - MBA program). He will be focusing in finance and he has 4 years of experience in money management/investment counseling. However, he is open to internships in other fields. If you are interested in availing yourself of Matt's considerable talents, please contact him at Ruvmi@aol.com, or give him a call at 770-612-8341. Act now, these good talents get snatched up quick.

Contemplating a New Service: Not sure how many of our folks peruse the postings to the Alumni Association's Electronic Turnouts. Anyway, scrolling through and reading these turnouts can be somewhat of a chore. So, to make life easier for all our participants, I'm thinking about copying new turnouts at the end of each week and forwarding them on to our participants in an e-mail separate from the Cyber Corps updates. I may try this next week on a test basis and I'd appreciate everyone's input as to whether you find this useful. Stay tuned.

Yours in the Spirit,
RB Lane '75
